Chi omega roots
Gamma Delta Chapter of Chi Omega was closed in 1995 due to dwindling numbers and economic downturn, and their proud alumnae are thrilled to be part of the very best comeback story in California.
The Installation of Chi Omega’s original 109th chapter came to be because Shen Yo , the first SDSU sorority, founded in 1921, petitioned Chi Omega to install its members so it could be a national organization. So, on November 17, 1950, in the San Diego Clubhouse, 55 members were initiated.
Chi Omega has proud, successful alumnae who credit their personal and professional success to Chi Omega. Like Georgeanne Irvine, a 1974 Initiate, who is somewhat of a local and national star. She has worked for the San Diego Zoo for the past 45 years even taking animals on old television shows like “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson” and “The Merv Griffin Show.”
