Supporting Sisters in a Time of Need

The Chi Omega Foundation’s Helping Hands Fund, a program sponsored by gifts to the Annual Fund, exists to provide confidential aid to deserving Chi Omega Alumnae who find themselves suddenly and unexpectedly in need due to a personal crisis, emergency, or need. This aid is granted for care and support of a one-time emergency.

Chi Omega member Diane’s situation came to our attention when loving Sisters began a local letter-writing campaign to raise the $10,000 fee needed for a PAWS service dog. To reach their goal, these caring friends sought an additional contribution from the Foundation for Diane:

Dear PAWS People, Multiple sclerosis has had me for 28 years. However, I’m still able to stand if I can hang onto something. I’ve learned these doggies can help you get up if you’re down and that sounds wonderful! I live alone and the companionship sounds terrific. My children are grown… my husband died 14 years ago, so I’m left with a heart full of love and no one to give it to. A pup that can do so many things sounds like a really WOW gift. Hoping that a precious pup will have my name on it. – Diane

There was a “precious pup” with her name on it – thanks to her Chi Omega Sisters! Thankfully, the Chi Omega Helping Hands Fund was available to provide 15% of the necessary funding.

Grants from this program are restricted in their use to the payment of basic necessities arising directly from an unexpected personal crisis, emergency, or need. Grants are awarded in confidence to support a one-time emergency.
