Due to overwhelming response, applications for the Helping Hands Fund for Disaster Relief have been suspended. If more funding permits, the Foundation will reopen the grant application.

The Chi Omega Foundation’s Helping Hands Fund for Disaster Relief Program exists to allow Sisters to help other Sisters, both alumnae and collegians, who have found themselves suddenly and unexpectedly in financial need due to Presidentially-declared disasters.

The Helping Hands Fund for Disaster Relief donations aided Heather Mayard Perrin, a collegian at Phi Zeta/McNeese State, impacted by Hurricane Rita. Heather was in the midst of her senior year and student teaching when the hurricane occurred. Classes resumed quickly, but her graduation was postponed. Heather lost her belongings as well as the home she was renting in the disaster. Heather’s grant paid for her teaching certificate, supplies, and interview attire. Heather is touching the lives of countless young people due to the generous spirit of Chi Omega donors.

Grants from this program are restricted in their use to the payment of basic necessities arising directly out of a Presidentially-declared major disaster or emergency, and relief funds must be dispersed within six months of the disaster.
